Badminton player Nguyễn Thùy Linh drops out of the world top 20

Nguyễn Thùy Linh slipped to 22nd place globally following her time off from competition due to injury, with plans to make a comeback at the Korea Masters 2025 in early November.

Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyễn Thùy Linh has dropped out of the world’s top 20 in the BWF rankings after missing official tournaments for over a month. According to the latest rankings released on October 24, Thùy Linh fell three spots to 22nd in the world.

The main reason for the 27-year-old’s ranking drop is her absence from recent BWF point-earning tournaments. Her last competition was the China Masters 2025 in early September, where she had to withdraw early due to injury. Afterwards, Thùy Linh focused on recovery and only participated in the international team badminton event in Indonesia in early October.

According to the plan, Nguyễn Thùy Linh will make her international comeback at the Korea Masters 2025, held from November 4 to 9. This event is part of the BWF World Tour Super 300 series, featuring many strong players from South Korea, Japan, China, and Denmark. Thùy Linh aims to advance deep into the tournament to accumulate points and improve her ranking.

In her career, Thùy Linh’s highest ranking was 17th in the world, achieved earlier this year after impressive performances at the Malaysia Open, Spain Masters, and Japan Open. She aims to break into the top 15 globally in 2026 — a significant milestone in her pursuit of elite competitions.

Currently, Nguyễn Thùy Linh remains Vietnam’s number one badminton hope. She has been registered on the national team roster for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand this December. The plan includes competing in women’s singles and a brief training camp combined with participation in international tournaments to maintain form.
