Nguyễn Thùy Linh receives good news on the world badminton rankings

Thùy Linh maintains her remarkable standing in the most recent BWF badminton world rankings update.

Vietnam’s top badminton player - Nguyễn Thùy Linh, has received positive news on the ranking list updated by the BWF (Badminton World Federation) on January 20th, Hanoi time.

According to the precise calculations of the specialist site Statminton, Thùy Linh moved up 2 places to rank 21 in the world standings. The “Vietnamese Badminton Beauty’s” points also improved significantly: from 47,610 to 48,930 points.

The gap between Thùy Linh and the world number 20, Lin Hsiang-ti, is only 680 points. This player is also her opponent in the opening match of the Indonesia Masters 2026 scheduled for January 21st.

Although she is less than 1,000 points away from the top 20, it will not be easy for Nguyễn Thùy Linh to break into this group next week. The golden girl of Vietnamese badminton must defend her points in Jakarta, having reached the quarterfinals of last year’s Super 500 tournament.

Last week, Thùy Linh competed in the Super 750 India Open in New Delhi, India, which was also her first tournament of 2026. In her opening match, the player from Phú Thọ caused an upset by coming from behind to defeat former world number 2 and former world champion - Pusarla Venkata Sindhu.
