Nguyễn Thùy Linh is set for a "visual spectacle" clash in the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Masters 2026.
Vietnam’s top badminton player - Nguyễn Thùy Linh impressively reached the quarterfinals of the Super 500 Indonesia Masters 2026 after a 2-0 victory over Chiu Pin-chian on the afternoon of January 22, Hanoi time.
Thùy Linh’s opponent in the last 8 was quickly confirmed soon after. The Vietnamese badminton beauty will face Thai badminton star Pitchamon Opatniputh, one of the most promising young players in Southeast Asian badminton today.
Born in 2007, Pitchamon Opatniputh is currently ranked 36th in the world. She is regarded as the future of Thai women’s singles badminton with great potential. The 18-year-old won the World Junior Championship in 2023, along with four other professional titles: Swedish Open, Denmark Masters, Bahrain International Challenge (all in 2022), and Baoji China Masters 2025.
Before competing at the 2026 Indonesia Masters, Pitchamon participated in another tournament this year: the Super 1000 Malaysia Open. Although she lost in the opening round, Pitchamon made a strong impression by pushing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Chen Yufei to a third game.
Besides her talent on court, Pitchamon is widely admired by fans for her exceptional beauty. The Thai badminton star has secured numerous advertising and photoshoot contracts and even had opportunities to enter the entertainment industry in Thailand, but she firmly declined and wants to focus 100% on her career.
Nguyễn Thùy Linh and Pitchamon Opatniputh have met once before at the semifinals of the 2023 Thailand International Challenge, where the Vietnamese top player won a tough three-game match (27-25; 18-21; 21-17).
Their quarterfinal match at the 2025 Indonesia Masters is scheduled for January 23. If victorious, the Vietnamese representative will face Letshanaa Karupathevan (ranked 42) or Huang Yu-hsun (ranked 37) in the semifinals.
