OFFICIAL: Nguyễn Thùy Linh is now the former runner-up of the German Open

The German Open ranks among the top two BWF events where Nguyễn Thùy Linh has enjoyed significant achievements in her career.

Thus, there has been no change. Vietnam's top badminton player - Nguyễn Thùy Linh will not participate in the 2026 Super 300 German Open held in Mulheim, Germany from February 24 to March 1 – an event where Thùy Linh has had considerable success in recent years.

Before the Lunar New Year 2026, Thùy Linh unexpectedly did not appear on the list of participants for this year's German Open. Her name was among those who withdrew, alongside Chen Yufei, Gao Fangjie, Michelle Li, Nozomi Okuhara, Pitchamon Opatniputh, and others.

This decision means Thùy Linh will become the former runner-up of this Super 300 tournament held in Germany. In both 2024 and 2025, the player born in 1997 reached the final match, with an even more impressive performance in 2024 - where she defeated former world No.1 Ratchanok Intanon as well as Kim Ga-eun in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

It is unfortunate that Thùy Linh was unable to claim the title in both seasons, losing respectively to Mia Blichfeldt and Yeo Jia Min.

Nguyễn Thùy Linh is expected to return to competition after the Lunar New Year at the prestigious 2026 Super 1000 All England Open, held in Birmingham, UK from March 3 to March 8.

The 2026 German Open gathers top badminton stars worldwide such as Li Shifeng, Chou Tien-chen, Christo Popov (men's singles); Wang Zhiyi, Han Yue, Pornpawee Chochuwong (women's singles); and Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, Wang Chang/Liang Weikeng, Nur Izzuddin/Goh Sze Fei (men's doubles), among others.

If she participated this year, Thùy Linh would likely face many challenges, making it unlikely for her to reach the final match as she did in the previous two seasons.
