Dodgers bullpen suffers multiple collapses! Retiring Kershaw willing to return to the bullpen this season

Los Angeles Dodgers' "legendary left-hander" Clayton Kershaw, despite declaring he will retire after this season, continues to demonstrate great determination. Manager Dave Roberts disclosed on the 24th that Kershaw is willing to remain on call in the bullpen and step in as a reliever if needed, to reinforce the bullpen that has recently struggled.

The Dodgers have been in a troubling state lately; during the games against the Giants on the 21st and again versus the Diamondbacks on the 23rd, the relief pitchers repeatedly faltered. Key relievers Blake Treinen and closer Tanner Scott both gave up runs, causing consecutive losses. In today’s game, Kershaw was even seen warming up in the bullpen. After the game, Roberts confirmed there is a possibility of him pitching: "We have to use pitchers who can get outs, and if Kershaw is willing, we will definitely send him out there."

Kershaw last started on the 20th against the Giants, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing 2 runs. He was originally scheduled to start again on the 29th in the regular season finale against the Mariners. However, he has volunteered to stay ready in the bullpen and stated that he is open to pitching in relief if needed during the playoffs. Roberts praised him, saying: "He took the initiative to offer help, and I think that’s a great attitude."

Notably, Japanese fireballer Roki Sasaki will return to the major leagues from Triple-A on the 25th and will also be on standby in the bullpen. The Dodgers may form a bullpen tandem of "Kershaw + Sasaki," becoming the team’s new generation "winning formula." Roberts emphasized: "Kershaw’s willingness to do this is a huge motivation for the team. He has always been a great teammate, always puts the team first, and wants to contribute once more toward a World Series championship."
