On the 24th, MLB New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the second inning against the Chicago White Sox, marking his 50th home run of the season and his fourth time reaching 50 homers in a single season, tying the MLB record. He hit another home run in the eighth inning, further extending the record late in the season.
In the bottom of the second inning, Judge connected off the White Sox's second pitcher Jonathan Cannon, helping the Yankees take a 3-1 lead and hitting his 50th home run of the season. He previously hit 52 homers in his rookie year 2017, set the AL record with 62 homers in 2022, hit 58 last year, and has already accumulated 51 this year.
In MLB history, only a handful of players have achieved 50 home runs in a single season four times. Babe Ruth accomplished this feat in 1920, 1921, 1927, and 1928; Mark McGwire did so consecutively from 1996 to 1999; Sammy Sosa achieved it from 1998 to 2001, and now Judge becomes the fourth player to join this elite group.
In the eighth inning, Judge hit another home run off White Sox left-handed reliever Cam Booser, a solo shot that extended the team's lead to 8-1. The 33-year-old, two-time AL MVP, currently leads the league with a .328 batting average and a 1.136 OPS, and has accumulated 109 RBIs so far.
