Raleigh hits two homers in one game, reaching 60 homers this season; Mariners clinch AL West title for the first time since 2001.

On September 25th Beijing time, MLB’s Seattle Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh exploded offensively against the Colorado Rockies, hitting two homers in one game to guide his team to a 9-2 win, helping the Mariners clinch their first AL West title since 2001. Raleigh’s total homers this season have reached 60, making him the seventh player in MLB history to hit 60 home runs in a single season.

Raleigh launched a 438-foot solo home run in the first inning, sending the ball deep into the upper right-field stands at T-Mobile Park for his 59th homer of the season. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit another solo shot 389 feet to right field, marking his 60th home run of the year, prompting the crowd to chant loudly, “MVP! MVP!”.

Raleigh currently leads the league with 60 homers this season, closely followed by Philadelphia’s power hitter Kyle Schwarber with 56. He is also closing in on the AL single-season home run record of 62 set by Yankees star Aaron Judge in 2022.

Raleigh has been breaking multiple records: most home runs by a catcher in a single season, most home runs by a switch hitter in one season, and the Mariners’ franchise record for most homers in a single season. He is also the first player ever to hit at least 20 home runs from each side of the plate in one season.

Currently, Raleigh is in a fierce race for the AL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award against Aaron Judge. On the same day, Judge also hit two home runs, raising his season total to 50 and 51, helping the Yankees tie the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the AL East.
