MLB announced the jersey sales leaderboard for this season today, and as expected, Los Angeles Dodgers’ Japanese star Shohei Ohtani claimed the top position for the third year in a row, matching the record.
According to MLB-provided information, since jersey sales tracking started in 2010, Ohtani is the third player to be the jersey sales leader for three consecutive years. The first was Derek Jeter from 2010 to 2012, and the second was Mookie Betts from 2020 to 2022. Unlike Ohtani, both Jeter and Betts stayed with the same team during their three-year runs, whereas Ohtani changed teams during his period at the top.
Aaron Judge, the powerful hitter for the New York Yankees, rose to second place this year after finishing third for two consecutive years. Third and fourth places went to Ohtani’s teammates Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts. Among the top 20, four players are from the Dodgers, including Clayton Kershaw, who recently announced his retirement and ranks twelfth.
Besides the Dodgers, only two other teams have more than one player in the top 20: the New York Mets with Francisco Lindor (5th), Juan Soto (6th), and Pete Alonso (17th); and the San Diego Padres with Fernando Tatis Jr. (10th) and Manny Machado (19th).
There are four newcomers in this year’s top 20: Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox at 13th, Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Chicago Cubs at 16th, Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates—who has the lowest ERA in the league—at 18th, and Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, who is the seventh player in MLB history to hit 60 home runs in a single season, at 20th.
