In their last regular-season home game, the Chicago Cubs dominated the St. Louis Cardinals 12-1. Star players "PCA" Pete Crow-Armstrong, Michael Busch, and Seiya Suzuki (who hit a grand slam) each homered. Both PCA and Suzuki reached their 30th home run of the season, and with Busch’s 32 homers, this marks only the second time in the Cubs' 150-year history that three players have hit 30 or more home runs in a single season.
The Cardinals' bullpen completely collapsed in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and ahead in the count, Seiya Suzuki seized the moment and smashed a sinking ball, marking his 30th home run and 100th RBI of the season. In the previous two seasons, he hovered around 20 homers and 70 RBIs.
PCA reached a career first by achieving 30 home runs, 30 stolen bases, and 30 doubles, becoming the first player in Cubs history to record a "30-30-30" season. A lucky Cubs fan who caught one of PCA’s home runs returned the ball to him and received memorabilia such as jerseys, bats, and signed balls, along with a photo with PCA. The fan said it was his first live game in 30 years. PCA remarked, "I'm glad I made it worth his ticket price."
The Cubs secured their 90th win and will face the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, likely with home-field advantage due to their better record. This will be the first postseason appearance for PCA, Busch, and Seiya Suzuki. Suzuki said, "He (PCA) ignited the crowd’s passion, and I can’t wait to see how he performs in the playoffs."
