This season, the Los Angeles Dodgers' "Japanese Big Three" — Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki — have all excelled in their respective roles. In a recent interview with Weekly Modern, head coach Dave Roberts discussed their distinct personalities and, unusually, disclosed that the "almost perfect" Ohtani has just one minor flaw in his eyes.

Roberts described Shohei Ohtani as an "almost perfect man." He is disciplined and hardworking, places great trust in his teammates and coaches, and it is precisely these qualities that have helped him maintain smooth communication with the team while adjusting his two-way playing style.

He laughed and said that he carefully observes Ohtani’s condition every day, noticing that even when his mood fluctuates, he rarely loses his temper over minor issues. "If I had to point out Ohtani’s flaw, it would be that he’s not good at expressing dissatisfaction. Even when something bothers him, he almost never speaks up," Roberts joked. "Maybe it’s related to Japanese culture — he doesn’t like to complain or argue much. But I believe expressing opinions isn’t complaining, though Ohtani is really too easygoing."

As for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roberts noted that he seems more like a typical "fashionable bachelor," enjoying luxury goods, watches, and cars, and knowing how to savor life, yet he is fiercely competitive on the field. When talking about Roki Sasaki, Roberts described him as the "youngest brother among the three," still adapting to a new environment and role. Although his rookie season has had some ups and downs, Roberts is confident Sasaki will gradually mature and get through the adjustment period.
