Josh Naylor, the Mariners' first baseman, is currently handling personal affairs, and manager Dan Wilson refused to disclose on Monday whether Naylor will join the team in Detroit for the third game of the ALDS.
Wilson commented, "We will have more information tomorrow."
He did not provide additional details, but it is reported that Naylor and his wife are expecting their first child.
The series between the Mariners and Tigers is tied 1-1, with the Tigers hosting Game 3 at home.
Seattle appears to have prepared for the possibility of Naylor's absence. "We have a plan ready," Wilson said.
Naylor was acquired by the Mariners from the Arizona Diamondbacks in July. This season, he has a .295 batting average with 20 home runs and 92 RBIs in the regular season. However, he has gone hitless in eight at-bats during the series against the Tigers.
