The New York Yankees of MLB were knocked out by the Blue Jays in the Division Series, concluding their campaign for this season. Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided the newest team information during a press briefing today.
Yankees captain Aaron Judge, who injured his right elbow due to over-throwing, underwent another MRI after the playoffs. Boone revealed that Judge’s muscle recovery is progressing well, stating "Surgery does not seem necessary at this point, and Judge should be able to play defense normally next season." However, the team also announced that their starting shortstop Anthony Volpe suffered a partial tear in his left shoulder labrum; Volpe has had surgery and is expected to return no earlier than April next year. Ace left-hander Carlos Rodón underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow and will be unable to pitch for the next eight weeks, likely missing the opening game next year as well.
At the start of next season, the Yankees’ starting rotation will see Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole, main right-hander Clarke Schmidt, and Rodón all begin the year on the injured list. The condition of the starting pitchers will be a key focus for the team in the upcoming season.
