Roki Sasaki has fully regained his pitching velocity and is entrusted with the closing role, dreaming of starting games and pitching complete games.

Coming in to close the ninth inning with a two-run advantage, Roki Sasaki threw his first pitch at 99.7 mph (approximately 160.5 km/h) as a sinker. Supported by excellent defense from Mookie Betts, he got the first out, then swiftly retired two more hitters, ending the game with a strikeout and securing his third playoff save.

In six postseason appearances so far, Roki Sasaki has recorded a 0-0 win-loss record, three saves, and an earned run average of 1.29. However, in the first game of the National League Championship Series, he pitched only 0.2 innings in the ninth, throwing 22 pitches, allowing one hit, issuing two walks, and giving up one run before being replaced. His fastest pitch then was only 99.3 mph (about 159.8 km/h), raising concerns about a drop in velocity.

Regarding the reason for his velocity recovery, Roki Sasaki stated, "Unconsciously, my pitching form had some deviations, and I didn’t realize the problem before taking the mound." He revealed that since that outing, "I have discussed and practiced seriously with the pitching coach, and today’s performance was quite good."

Facing the high-pressure role of a relief pitcher, Roki Sasaki admitted, "I stayed relaxed watching the game until the later innings, hoping the team could finish strong and win." From a rough start as a starter in the new season to transforming into a relief "closer," Sasaki said, "I didn’t have many good impressions of the Dodgers’ home field initially, but the view is gradually changing now, which might help next year."

In the previous game, Roki Sasaki’s average fastball velocity dropped by 1.5 mph compared to his earlier appearances. Addressing external doubts, head coach Dave Roberts said, "No worries at all!" He continued, "The training staff, coaches, everyone feels he’s in good shape, and he’s completely fine. If we need him tomorrow night, he’ll be ready!"

Regarding the issue of Sasaki’s decreased velocity, Roberts shared his perspective. He noted that during rehab games in the minor leagues last month, Sasaki’s average fastball velocity increased by 4.2 mph, leading the coaching staff to conclude his speed was sufficient for the closer role. Roberts said, "I have noticed a slight drop in velocity, but it could bounce back tomorrow. I believe he is healthy and feels good. We’re in the playoffs now, and every player must be ready when called upon! Everyone needs to be in position. We’re working hard to win the championship. If he’s the best option, he will pitch."
