The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract with bullpen pitcher Hoffman

The Blue Jays showed a positive stance and determination after last season, but both ended in failure, and today (11th) it was reported that they have reached a three-year contract agreement with Jeff Hoffman, the top bullpen in the free market.

The contract is $33 million over three years, in addition to $6 million worth of incentive provisions.

Hoffman, who turned 32 on Jan. 9, was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 2014 first-round draft, but he was sent to Rocky in a major trade in July of that year in exchange for star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

Hoffman, who started 38 of his 68 games in the major leagues in 2016, was traded to the Reds in the 2020 postseason and converted to a full-time bullpen pitcher when he joined the Phillies in 2022.

In the past 2 years, Hoffman has made 8 wins, 5 losses, 11 rescues and 32 relays in 122 games, with a 2.28 ERA, a 0.94 base rate per inning, and a K/9 value of 12.01. He also ranks 6th in strikeout rate and top 10 in the major leagues in terms of strikeout rate and swing rate, so free agency is considered the second-best bullpen pitcher after Scott.

Before signing Hoffman, the Blue Jays only had two major postseason reinforcements, a two-year, $15 million contract with Bullpen pitcher Yimi Garcia and a deal with the Guardians in exchange for Gold Glove second baseman Andres Gimenez.

Since the Blue Jays finished 29th in the major leagues with a 4.82 ERA last season and the worst in the American League, bringing in Garcia and Hoffman will be a positive improvement, especially Hoffman and last season's terminators Chad Green and Erik Swanson will form the winning equation, and Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins also said that Hoffman has a chance to be the team's finisher.
