On October 20th, at the Fukuoka SoftBank Dome, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks beat the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters 2-1 in the sixth game of the 2025 Pacific League Championship. Building on their earlier advantage, they clinched the series 4-3, qualifying for the Japan Series for the second straight year.
In the bottom of the third inning, after one out, the Hawks created a scoring opportunity with runners on first and second thanks to consecutive hits by Takashi Ueno and Taisei Makihara. Then Ukyo Shuto hit a ground ball infield, leading to a throwing error by the opposition, allowing the Hawks to take the lead. Moinelo gave up a two-base hit to Kota Yazawa and Yuya Gunji in the top of the fourth, tying the game, but he successfully navigated through the following threats and retired the side in order in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, SoftBank's offense capitalized on a walk by Hotaka Yamakawa and consecutive hits from Taisei Makihara and Ukyo Shuto to load the bases with two outs. Akira Kawase then delivered a timely hit to put the team ahead. Moinelo pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings, throwing 93 pitches over seven innings, allowing three hits, issuing two walks, striking out six, and conceding one run before exiting the game.
In the top of the eighth, Yuki Matsumoto retired the side in order. In the ninth inning, closer Kazuki Sugiyama came in and flawlessly shut down the opposing heart of the lineup, starting with third batter Reyes, securing a 2-1 victory. The offense seized opportunities early to score two runs, while the pitching staff limited the opposition to just one run, ultimately winning the Pacific League championship.
The losing Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters saw starter Kota Tada pitch 5.2 innings, giving up six hits, issuing two walks, striking out six, and allowing two runs (one earned). The bullpen also performed well, but the offense managed only three hits and one run throughout the game, falling short of their goal to return to the Japan Series for the first time in nine years.
