The seventh game of the MLB American League Championship Series was held at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. Seattle Mariners maintained a lead from the 3rd through the 6th innings, until Blue Jays veteran George Springer launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the 7th inning to reverse the score. Toronto won 4-3 in a close match. The Blue Jays last reached the World Series in 1993, and they will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Mariners scored twice in the first inning, with Julio Rodríguez hitting a home run in the top of the 3rd to give Seattle the lead. Cal Raleigh added a home run in the top of the 5th, extending the Mariners’ lead to two runs.
George Kirby pitched 4 innings, allowing 1 run before leaving the game. Bryan Woo came in long relief until the bottom of the 7th, when with one out the bases were loaded. The Mariners brought in bullpen ace Eduard Bazardo to try to stop the rally, but Springer’s second pitch flew over the center-right field stands, completely reversing the game and sending Toronto fans into jubilation.
For this game, the Blue Jays invited former stars from 2015-16 including Russell Martin, Kevin Pillar, Edwin Encarnación, Josh Donaldson, José Bautista, and Marco Estrada to cheer on the current Blue Jays players.
This marks the Blue Jays’ third World Series appearance in 49 years of franchise history. They won back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993, and this year is the first time ever that the Blue Jays will face the Dodgers in the World Series.
