Yamamoto Yoshinobu was once doubted to complete a full game; former Yankees captain Derek Jeter admitted after the game, "I was wrong."

During World Series Game 2, Dodgers ace Yamamoto Yoshinobu once again threw a complete game, guiding his team to a 5-1 win against the Toronto Blue Jays. His achievement of consecutive complete-game victories in the postseason is remarkable. Derek Jeter, the former Yankees captain, had openly claimed that Yamamoto wouldn't be able to finish Game 2, but now he has had to revise his opinion. In a postgame show, Jeter candidly admitted, "My prediction was wrong."

In this game, Yamamoto threw 105 pitches over 9 innings, allowing only 4 hits, giving up 1 run, striking out 8, and issuing no walks. This made him the first starting pitcher in 24 years since Curt Schilling of the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks to achieve consecutive complete-game wins in the postseason. This rare feat also earned genuine admiration from another former Yankee star on the show, "A-Rod" Alex Rodriguez.

On Fox Sports’ postgame commentary, Jeter opened by apologizing to Yamamoto: "First, I want to take this opportunity to admit my prediction was wrong. While I thought he could suppress the Blue Jays’ lineup, I never expected him to pitch a complete game. Especially after he used 23 pitches in the first inning, who there thought he would go the distance?"

Rodriguez then added that he too did not anticipate Yamamoto completing the game. He had assumed Dodgers manager Dave Roberts would start Yamamoto, then bring in Blake Treinen for relief, and finally have Roki Sasaki close it out. However, Yamamoto’s outstanding form allowed him to fully control the game even facing the Blue Jays’ lineup for a third time.

Rodriguez further praised, "This was truly a masterpiece! He can be considered the most complete starting pitcher currently. With six different pitches he can use flexibly, combined with excellent pickoff moves that make it hard for runners to steal, plus solid defensive skills, I honestly don’t know how else to describe him!"
