The MLB World Series champion will be decided today! Ahead of the crucial Game 7, the Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced on their website that they will once again start two-way player Shohei Ohtani as pitcher against the 41-year-old Cy Young legend Max Scherzer of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ohtani last started on October 28 in Game 4, marking his first career World Series pitching appearance as "Pitcher Ohtani." In that game, he pitched six innings, allowing six hits and four runs. Being assigned to start again means Ohtani will pitch just three days after his previous outing, whereas during the regular season he typically rested more than six days between pitching appearances.
According to the plan, Ohtani is expected to pitch at least two to three innings before being relieved by Tyler Glasnow. In the ninth inning of Game 6's do-or-die situation, when Roki Sasaki struggled, the Dodgers brought in Glasnow for emergency relief, who successfully preserved the win.
After Game 6, manager Dave Roberts stated that the team would give their all to win the final game: "Game 7 will involve many things we haven’t done before, but we must trust our players and find ways to win." Now the team has officially confirmed Ohtani as the starter for Game 7, launching their final push to defend the title.
