Kenta Maeda concludes his decade-long career in the U.S. and officially announces his return to Nippon Professional Baseball next year.

The 37-year-old Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda revealed today on social media that he will resume his career in Japanese baseball next season, marking the end of his decade-long stint in the United States.

Currently, Maeda has 97 wins in Nippon Professional Baseball and 68 wins in Major League Baseball, falling 35 wins short of a total 200 wins across Japan and the U.S. In his statement, he said, "I have decided to continue my baseball career in Japan starting next season."

Reflecting on his ten years in the U.S., Maeda said, "Playing in America from 2016 to 2025 was a dream come true. These ten years were filled with unforgettable moments, and I am deeply grateful to everyone." He especially thanked his teammates, coaches, and fans, adding, "From day one, everyone warmly welcomed me and my family and offered help whenever I needed it. The awards I received, the playoff appearances, and the World Series memories will always remain in my heart."

Maeda also highlighted the crucial role of fan support throughout his career: "Especially during the playoffs and World Series, the energy inside the stadium was unmatched. One of the most unforgettable moments in my baseball career was when I escaped a tough situation and received a standing ovation from the entire crowd."

Finally, Maeda expressed his gratitude to all supporters: "Starting next year, I will begin a new chapter in Japan, and I look forward to the day we can meet again. Thank you all sincerely."

Earlier this year in August, Maeda shared on a Tokyo TV program that 2025 would be his final year playing in the U.S., already expressing his intention to return to Nippon Professional Baseball. Now, with his official announcement, he embarks on a new phase of his career.

After finishing the 2015 season with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, Maeda entered the posting system to challenge the Major Leagues, joining the Los Angeles Dodgers and beginning his career in the U.S. He later played for the Dodgers, Twins, and Tigers. Midway through this season, he was designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers and subsequently spent time with the Cubs and Yankees organizations, but only at the minor league level.
