Russian media recently revealed that the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics figure skating women's single silver medalist and Russian star Alexandra Trusova is waiting for the birth of her child.

In response, the 20-year-old figure skater changed the way he competed. Trusova did not perform jumps in Minsk in mid-December 2024, nor in the programs "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty" in early January. On January 11, she did not fly to Baku, where her qualification for participation was replaced by Alena Costonaya.
Last August, Trusova married Russian men's singles skater Makar Ignatov. At the beginning of the season, Trusova took part in a tryout for the Russian national figure skating team, but later hinted that she would not compete again. Her only title was a victory at the 2022 Russian Figure Skating Championships. This was awarded after then-gold medalist Kamila Valieva was disqualified for testing positive for doping. Trusova's best result at the Winter Olympics and European Championships was silver in the women's singles, and her best result at the World Championships was a bronze medal in the women's singles.
In fact, Trusova basically announced her retirement. Although she could choose to return to competition after the birth of her own child, there is no such precedent in the history of women's singles skating in Russia.
