Star closer Edwin Díaz officially signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers today. Meanwhile, his brother Alexis Díaz, who was also with the Dodgers this year, has secured a new role by agreeing to a one-year deal with the Texas Rangers.
Edwin Díaz has been with the New York Mets since 2019, compiling a 24-22 record, 144 saves, and a 2.93 ERA over seven seasons. This offseason, he entered free agency and ultimately decided to sign a three-year, $69 million contract with the Dodgers, making him the highest-paid closer in terms of average annual salary in history.
Today, Edwin Díaz visited the Dodgers stadium for a press conference held to welcome him to the team. He will wear jersey number 3 in the upcoming season. During the interview, he revealed that before making his decision, he specifically consulted with his brother Alexis Díaz, who played for the Dodgers this year, to get a sense of the team's style. He said, “My brother told me this is a fantastic team, which made my decision easier.”
Notably, the Díaz brothers received good news simultaneously today. Older brother Edwin officially joined the Dodgers, while younger brother Alexis reached a one-year agreement with the Rangers.
Alexis Díaz made his MLB debut in 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds, appearing in 59 games as a rookie with an ERA of just 1.84. The following year, he became the team’s closer, accumulating 75 saves over his first three seasons. However, his 2025 season was disappointing; he was traded midseason to the Dodgers, then designated for assignment in September and moved to the Atlanta Braves. He appeared in 18 games that year with an ERA of 8.15.
