Jazz Chisholm Jr. demands a top-five contract for a position player: a minimum average salary of $35 million with no discounts for the Yankees.

Jazz Chisholm Jr., the New York Yankees' second baseman set to hit free agency after this season, openly declared his ideal contract: he wants an 8 to 10-year agreement with an average yearly salary of $35 million, explicitly refusing to offer the Yankees any price reduction.

At 28, Chisholm had his best season last year with the Yankees, posting 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases over 531 plate appearances, hitting .242/.332/.481 with a wRC+ of 126. His defense at second base was also praised, playing 851 innings and earning a defensive runs saved rating 2 runs above average.

After agreeing to a final arbitration salary of $10.2 million with the Yankees, Chisholm is expected to reach six years of service time this year, qualifying for free agency. In an interview with NJ.com, he said: "Remember what I told you last year? $300 million? Now it’s probably going to be more, around $35 million per year." On contract length, he added: "I’m 28 now, and I want 8 to 10 years."

So far in MLB history, only four pure position players have signed deals of 8 or more years with an average annual value above $35 million: Juan Soto (15 years, $765 million), Aaron Judge (9 years, $360 million), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (14 years, $500 million), and Mike Trout (12 years, $426.5 million).

Chisholm said he enjoys being with the Yankees, but when asked if he would accept $25 million per year from them, he was firm: "I would say no, because I know I can get $35 million elsewhere, which is $10 million less per year."

However, that "elsewhere" is not the Dodgers. Chisholm stated plainly: "I would choose the Angels over the Dodgers. I want to win on my own, preferring to establish myself rather than joining the Dodgers."
