Exploding in his first spring training at-bat! Schwarber blasts a homer out of the park as the Phillies' power hitter returns

Since Kyle Schwarber's two-home-run performance in Game 3 of the 2025 National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium, no one has seen him hit a home run. That game featured a monstrous 455-foot homer that cleared the right-field stands, one of only eight in the stadium’s history to leave the park.

But Schwarber made his comeback today during the Grapefruit League spring training game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Although the Phillies ultimately lost 3-4, in his first spring training at-bat during the opening inning, he smashed a ball deep to right field, a 438-foot homer that flew out of BayCare Ballpark.

“I guess it was a good swing,” Schwarber said. “It felt great... The wind blowing out to right field helped a bit. I’m not sure if it would have gone out without the wind, but it definitely made the ball look like it traveled farther.”

From 2022 to 2025, Schwarber hit 187 home runs over his first four seasons with the Phillies. In the franchise’s history, only Ryan Howard, who hit 198 homers from 2006 to 2009, has recorded more home runs over four consecutive seasons.

The Phillies hope he will hit even more over the next five years. Last December, the team signed him to a five-year, $150 million contract.

Schwarber was hit by a pitch in the third inning and struck out in the fifth.

“Overall, it was a solid start today,” he said.

Schwarber mentioned that he began his offseason training around December 1 and started swinging the bat on January 5, the first Monday after New Year’s.

“I used to be the type to start swinging early to try to stay in shape,” he said. “But over time, I realized that doing more quality training doesn’t require more time. I think it’s important to build a strong training foundation and get the body moving before starting to swing. Get those things right first, then begin swinging in the offseason. But don’t overthink it.”
