Yankees' Martian sensation shines in spring training but faces uphill battle for roster spot, GM says no immediate opening for him.

Jasson Domínguez, the 23-year-old switch-hitting outfielder who was the Yankees' top prospect last year, is scorching hot at the plate this spring, but his path to a regular role still requires patience. Domínguez, a much-anticipated switch-hitter for the Yankees, debuted in the majors in 2023, was subsequently sent down, and finally completed his rookie campaign last season with 123 games played.

Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman stated, "Clearly there's no set starting spot for him right now. We have Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham, Giancarlo Stanton. But plans can change. What Domínguez needs to do now, like everyone else, is go out and perform his best. We'll make a decision by the end of spring training. Hopefully, it will be a difficult decision for me."

Last season, Domínguez posted 10 home runs, 47 RBIs, and a .719 OPS, earning some Rookie of the Year votes. Sending him to Triple-A could provide more consistent playing time for development, which may be more valuable than a bench role in the majors. His actual offensive impact is stronger than his stats suggest; as a switch-hitter, his main weakness is against left-handed pitching, but he excels particularly when facing right-handers.

The Yankees also signed veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk to a minor league deal. A right-handed batter specialized in hitting left-handed pitching, Grichuk could further limit Domínguez's opportunities. It is widely expected that Domínguez will begin the new season at Triple-A.
