Deng Kaiwei faces the New York Mets again, pitches 1.2 innings in relief and allows 1 run.

Deng Kaiwei, the pitcher traded to the Houston Astros in the offseason, made his second spring training appearance today, once again facing the New York Mets. He pitched 1.2 innings in relief, gave up a solo home run, recorded 1 strikeout and 2 walks, allowing 1 run, delivering a commendable performance.

Deng Kaiwei made his spring training debut this year on February 25, also against the Mets, pitching 2 innings with 2 strikeouts and no runs allowed. He impressively retired the formidable trio of Marcus Semien, Juan Soto, and Bo Bichet in succession.

Today, Deng Kaiwei entered in relief in the bottom of the 3rd inning. He started by inducing a ground ball to shortstop for the first out, then issued two consecutive walks. However, he quickly regained composure, getting a ground ball to second base for the second out, and then used his signature "slider-cutter" to strike out the batter swinging, ending the inning.

Deng Kaiwei continued pitching in the bottom of the 4th inning. After one out, he made a mistake with his slider-cutter and gave up a solo home run to Tyrone Taylor to left field, allowing 1 run. After the home run, Deng calmly secured the second out before exiting the game.

In this outing, Deng Kaiwei pitched 1.2 innings in relief, throwing 38 pitches with a maximum velocity of 95.3 mph (approximately 153.3 km/h). He allowed 1 hit and 1 run, with 2 walks and 1 strikeout, resulting in a post-game ERA of 2.45. The Astros ultimately lost to the Mets 3-4.
