The official practice day for the 2026 Sixth World Baseball Classic was held today. Team Japan officially announced the starting pitcher for their first preliminary match, entrusting the ace right-hander Yamamoto Yoshinobu with this important task. Regarding being assigned the opening game start, Yamamoto Yoshinobu stated: "I will give my utmost effort and live up to everyone's expectations."

Yamamoto Yoshinobu has served as an opening day starter multiple times before, both in Japan's NPB and in MLB, so taking on the first game start is familiar to him. However, he admitted that his mindset toward games remains consistent. "For me, the mindset is the same for every game. Whether it's a regular season game or an important opening match like this, there isn't really much difference in my feelings."

There were earlier reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers were reluctant for him to participate in this Classic. Yamamoto Yoshinobu personally addressed this: "The Dodgers fully understand how important the Classic is to Japanese fans. We had thorough discussions, and because my physical condition was good at the time, we ultimately reached an agreement for me to join this Classic, ensuring I can be ready for the Dodgers' season opener."

After completing two official warm-up games, Team Japan's overall preparation atmosphere is quite positive. Yamamoto Yoshinobu also shared the team's current situation: "The team's morale is excellent now, everyone is preparing for the games in great form. Moreover, the roster is full of top-tier players, so I believe there are absolutely no issues."
