Shohei Ohtani discusses Classic preparation: With more young players emerging, I feel like I'm getting older.

With the 2026 World Baseball Classic set to begin at the Tokyo Dome, Japanese two-way star Shohei Ohtani addressed the media today ahead of the tournament, discussing his current readiness and mindset. Ohtani expressed, "It feels like it's finally starting."

In the two earlier official exhibition games, Shohei Ohtani stepped up to bat five times. Regarding his physical condition, Ohtani noted that overall he feels quite good: "Although I've had fewer games compared to when I was in the U.S., my body is maintaining well at the moment, and I'm very satisfied with where I am now."

Speaking about the current team atmosphere in the Japanese squad, Ohtani smiled and said that every time he rejoins the national team, he notices the roster getting younger. "Each time we gather for training, I see more and more players from the younger generation. Sometimes it even makes me feel a bit old."

However, Ohtani also emphasized that these young players are full of energy, creating a very positive team environment. "Everyone is so young and lively—I think it's a fantastic group." Ohtani added that this Classic brings together many of the world's top players, and he looks forward to showcasing great baseball on such a high-level stage.

Ohtani stated, "This time, many elite players are gathered here. I believe it's an opportunity not just for baseball fans, but for all Japanese fans to unite. If everyone can display outstanding skills, I think that will be our greatest strength."
