In his third MLB game after being promoted, Detroit Tigers infielder Li Hao-Yu faced the Boston Red Sox again. This game saw him achieve his first career hit, first RBI, first extra-base hit, and score his first run, delivering two hits. Li Hao-Yu stated after the game: "I'm very happy, it's finally done."
In the top of the fourth inning with two outs and runners on first and second, Li Hao-Yu seized the second pitch to drive a hit to center field, bringing home the runner from second to tie the game at 2-2. This marked his third MLB appearance and ninth at-bat, officially reaching the significant milestones of his first hit and first RBI.
In the top of the ninth inning with the Tigers trailing by five runs, Li Hao-Yu stepped up as the first batter. Again attacking the second pitch, he smashed a double that hit the left-field Green Monster, his first extra-base hit in MLB. The ball had an exit velocity of 107.6 mph, traveled 377 feet, and had a launch angle of 20 degrees.
After one out, Li Hao-Yu scored his first MLB run thanks to Kevin McGonigle's double. Subsequently, Gleyber Torres added a hit to bring in another run. With two outs, Riley Greene hit a double to right field to drive in two more runs, but the Tigers ultimately lost 6-8.
Li Hao-Yu went 2-for-4 in the game with one walk, one run scored, and one RBI.
Manager A.J. Hinch commented: "Li Hao-Yu was thrilled about getting his first hit. There's only one first time in a career, and he's been eager to achieve it these games. I'm glad he could do it here."
