The New York Mets' performance has plummeted, and after losing again today, they have now suffered 12 consecutive defeats. With their team's offense repeatedly failing, Mets fans can only find humor in the midst of hardship. In the ninth inning today, when Austin Warren stepped onto the mound and struck out three batters consecutively, someone in the crowd actually started chanting "M! V! P!"
Today, the Mets relied on Francisco Lindor's three-run homer and starting pitcher Nolan McLean's strong performance—holding the Minnesota Twins lineup scoreless for the first five innings while racking up eight strikeouts—to initially take a 3-0 lead.
However, the situation changed dramatically in the top of the sixth inning. McLean first allowed a two-run homer, then was hit with a run-scoring single, tying the game at 3-3. Entering the top of the ninth inning, the Mets sent out closer Devin Williams to shut down the Twins' lineup, but he faltered, allowing a hit and three walks, resulting in two runs scored before he was withdrawn dejectedly. The Mets ultimately lost 3-5, suffering their 12th consecutive defeat.
Today, they had an opportunity to end the losing streak, but Williams once again faltered in a critical moment. From the broadcast footage, it can be seen that after Williams was withdrawn in the top of the ninth inning and Warren stepped onto the mound to strike out three batters in one inning, the crowd actually started chanting "M! V! P!" Clearly, this was partly to acknowledge Warren's performance and partly to find humor in the midst of hardship.
