New York Mets End 12-Game Losing Streak Nightmare, Soto Returns but Lindor Injury Dims Team Celebration

The New York Mets, having suffered consecutive losses, finally achieved a win at their home field today. With Juan Soto back in action pre-game, Mark Vientos hit a key single in the bottom of the eighth to drive in the decisive run. The Mets beat the Minnesota Twins 3-2, putting an end to a 12-game losing streak, which marked the longest in the league this year and the team's most prolonged slump in almost 24 years.

Mets starting pitcher Clay Holmes pitched seven innings, allowing five hits, and saw two leads erased by the Twins. He left the game when the score was tied 2-2. In the bottom of the eighth, Vientos' hit became the game-winning blow, finally giving the 32,665 spectators the long-awaited moment.

This marks the Mets' first win since April 8th, when they defeated the Diamondbacks 4-3 in extra innings. After enduring 12 losses over half a month, they have finally won again, though their season record stands at 8-16, still placing them at the bottom of the National League.

Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor hit a single in the first inning to score the first run of the game. In the bottom of the fourth, he again hit an infield single and later scored the second run on a teammate's hit, but was forced to leave the game early due to tightness in his left calf.

The Mets' official website noted that the team has finally returned to the path of victory, but Lindor's injury significantly cooled the post-game celebration atmosphere.
