The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the Baltimore Orioles for the second contest of their three-game set, with Shohei Ohtani immediately rejoining the squad after welcoming his second child. After failing to get a hit in his initial three plate appearances, he crushed a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to ignite a comeback attempt. Unfortunately, the Dodgers fell short, as the Orioles, led by starter Trevor Rogers who threw seven scoreless innings, secured a 3-2 victory and ended Los Angeles' four-game winning streak.
The Dodgers started Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound. In the top of the second inning, Baltimore struck first. Leody Taveras and Colton Cowser strung together consecutive hits, putting runners at first and third with no outs. A groundout brought in the first run, giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, Samuel Basallo and Taveras hit back-to-back singles, and Yamamoto issued a walk, loading the bases with two outs. Blaze Alexander then laced a double down the third-base line, driving in two runs and extending Baltimore's lead to 3-0.
Yamamoto pitched six innings, allowing six hits, two walks, and three earned runs while striking out six, marking a quality start that brought his ERA to 2.65. Orioles starter Rogers dominated, tossing seven innings, yielding just one hit and two walks, completely stifling the Dodgers' lineup and lowering his ERA to 5.30.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Dodgers mounted their final comeback attempt. After going 0-for-3 with a strikeout, Ohtani connected with a sinker that strayed near the middle of the zone, sending the ball over the center-field wall to break the shutout—his 16th home run of the season. Baltimore's troubles were not over. Freddie Freeman drew a walk, and Mookie Betts beat out an infield single. With two outs and runners on first and second, Tommy Edman hit a sinking line drive to right field; outfielder Taveras initially caught the ball but then dropped it as it hit the ground. Freeman raced home for the Dodgers' second run. However, the next batter, Kyle Tucker, could not keep the rally going, striking out for the third time in the game. The Orioles held on for a 3-2 win, snapping Los Angeles' four-game winning streak. Trevor Rogers earned his fourth win of the season, while Yamamoto suffered his fifth loss.
