On Father's Day, Shohei Ohtani got a hit while being listed as "Toru's son" and exited early with ice on his left knee.

Shohei Ohtani, a new dad to two children, played a unique game today on American Father's Day.

The Dodgers faced the Orioles at home, with Ohtani listed as "Toru's son" on the starting roster—a perfect nod to Father's Day. He used a light blue custom bat and blue cleats, recording one hit. However, he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning and applied ice to his left knee afterward.

Ohtani missed one game on the 20th due to paternity leave and announced the birth of his second child via Instagram early the next day, sharing a thank-you message with his wife Mamiko along with a photo of the baby wrapped in a light blue blanket. He returned after just one game off, hitting a solo home run to right-center field in the ninth inning of his first game back against the Orioles—a fiery celebration of his new role as a father of two. The Dodgers' official social media also posted, "Shohei with the Dad power!"

Today, on American Father's Day, Ohtani's name on the starting lineup was not just the usual player name but prominently displayed as "Toru's son," meaning he is the son of his father Toru—a ceremonial touch that amplified the occasion.

In his first at-bat, Ohtani drew a walk and later scored the team's first run on a timely hit from teammate Max Muncy. Despite his left knee possibly not being at 100%, he showed aggressive baserunning, though his steps back to the dugout looked slightly off. In his second at-bat with one out and a runner on first, Ohtani was jammed by a fastball but still managed to poke it into center field for a hit. In his third at-bat in the fifth inning, he switched back to his regular black bat and grounded out to first base.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with the Dodgers trailing 1-10, Ohtani was pinch-hit for and exited early, drawing sighs from the home crowd. After all, fans wanted to see more swings from this "Father's Day special edition" dad of two.

After the game, Ohtani applied ice to his left knee in the clubhouse, then packed his bags to join the team for a road trip against the Minnesota Twins.

Notably, Ohtani had also left a game against the Pirates on June 11 early due to left knee discomfort, but tests showed no major issues, and he returned to action on June 13 against the White Sox.

Regarding Ohtani's early exit, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the game, "Shohei is fine. I just gave him the rest given the situation of the game."

According to a positive update from Dodgers beat reporter Katie Woo of The Athletic, star slugger Hernandez, who suffered a Grade 1 left leg strain while running the bases in late May, is recovering well. He is expected to begin a 4-5 game rehab assignment in Triple-A the day after tomorrow. If all goes smoothly, he will return for the game against the Athletics on June 30.
