On June 27, the Los Angeles Dodgers played the San Diego Padres on the road. Starter Roki Sasaki allowed six walks in only four innings, setting a personal season high for walks. The Dodgers lost 1-7 to the Padres, snapping their three-game winning streak.
In the top of the second, Mookie Betts opened the scoring with a home run, putting the Dodgers ahead 1-0. However, in the bottom half of the inning, Sasaki walked Manny Machado and Gavin Sheets before allowing a three-run homer to Ty France with one out, flipping the score to 3-1 in favor of the Padres. In the bottom of the fourth, Machado hit an extra-base hit off Sasaki, who then issued a hit-by-pitch and a walk, eventually escaping a bases-loaded jam before being pulled.
In the bottom of the fifth, Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled off Sasaki, and after a walk to Samad Tyler, the Dodgers brought in Jack Dreyer to handle the crisis. Although the bullpen managed to keep the score unchanged, Sasaki threw only 81 pitches over four innings, his shortest start since April 13. He allowed three hits, five walks, and one hit-by-pitch, striking out two and surrendering three runs.
To make matters worse, the Dodgers' offense provided no further support. In the bottom of the eighth, the Padres sent eight batters to the plate, scoring four runs on four hits and two walks. The game ended 1-7. Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
