The 2025 All England Open Badminton Championships will kick off from 11 to 16 March, and the 100-year-old Super 1000 tournament has always been the world's top badminton event. This year's $1.45 million tournament attracted the world's best players to Birmingham for the title.
Shi Yuqi
The Chinese badminton team went out with an all-main lineup this time, especially the adjustment of the mixed doubles combination is particularly eye-catching.
Learn about the highlights and schedule of this year's All England Open through this article. In men's singles, the Chinese team sent a total of 5 players to participate, namely Shi Yuqi, Li Shifeng, Lei Lanxi, Weng Hongyang, and Lu Guangzu.
Shi Yuqi of the Chinese badminton team is currently ranked No. 1 in the world and is regarded as one of the favourites to win the championship.
He has performed very well in the past year, reaching multiple international finals and successfully reaching the top of the world rankings at the end of the year, with more than 100,000 points. Entering 2025, Shi Yuqi won the Malaysia Open and then reached the semi-finals at the Indonesia Masters. His first-round opponent at the All England Open is Indonesia's Ziko, and if he wins, his second-round opponent will be between Chou Tien Seng and Popov Jr.
Li Shifeng and Weng Hongyang face a tough challenge: Li Shifeng faces a strong Ginting in the first round, while Weng Hongyang will face Thailand's Kunlavut again. Lei Lanxi's first-round opponent is Japan's Kenta Nishimoto, while Lu Guangzu will face Chinese Taipei's Wang Ziwei across the net.
Chen Yufei
In the women's singles field, the Chinese team has four players: Wang Zhiyi, Chen Yufei, Gao Fangjie and Han Yue.
Chen Yufei, who made a spectacular comeback at the Orleans Masters in France last week, is looking forward to it. Although she finished runner-up at her first BWF event since returning to the game, she has yet to return to peak form. She competed as an unseeded player at the All England Championships, where she faced Denmark's Jakesfield in the first round. In this trip to the UK, she and South Korea's Ahn Se Young, who beat her in the final last week, could meet in the quarter-finals early.
World No. 2 Wang Zhiyi is facing Japanese star and former world champion Nozomi Okuzono in the first round of this year's All England Championships. Before the quarter-finals, Wang Zhiyi faced little challenge.
No. 4 seed Han Yue's first-round opponent is Chinese Taipei's Bai Yupo;
It remains to be seen whether the outcome of last week's Orleans Masters, which advanced to the semi-finals and eventual champion Ahn Se-young, will meet the South Korean No. 1 in the first round of the matchup.
Leung Wai Hang/Wang Chang
In the men's doubles competition, five pairs of Chinese badminton teams competed, namely Leung Wai Keng/Wang Chang, He Jiting/Ren Xiangyu, Huang Di/Liu Yang, Liu Baiyang/Liu Yi, and Xie Haonan/Zeng Weihan.
World No.3 Leung Wai Hang/Wang Chang will face Indonesia's Kataman/Isfahani in the first round. World No.6 Ho Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu face Malaysia's Wan Wei Cong/Cheng Kai Wen in the first round.
Chen Boyang/Liu Yi, who reached the quarter-finals of the Orleans Masters last week and eventually lost to their opponents Liang Wang, will face Indonesia's Alfian/Ardianto in the first round this week. Xie Haonan/Zeng Weihan in the first round against Chinese Taipei pair Qiu Xiangyu/Wang Qilin; Huang Di/Liu Yang's first-round opponent is Malaysia's Arif Yap/Yip Rui Qing.
In Women's Doubles, the Chinese team has three pairs, namely Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning, Jia Yifan/Zhang Shuxian, and Li Yijing/Luo Xumin.
Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning, the second seeds, had their best luck in the first two rounds and are expected to reach the quarter-finals relatively smoothly, but will then face a tough test against South Korea's Kong Hee Yong/Kim Hye Jung, who won the Orleans Masters Women's Doubles title last week.
Jia Yifan/Zhang Shuxian will face Scottish pair Michael McPherson/Torrance in the first round, and if they can advance, they are likely to face world No.1 Baek Ha Na/Lee So-hee in the second round. Li Yijing/Luo Xumin will face Ukraine's Blova/Kantemir in the first round.
In Mixed Doubles, China sent four pairs to compete, namely Feng Yanzhe/Wei Yaxin, Jiang Zhenbang/Huang Dongping, Guo Xinwa/Chen Fanghui and Zhu Yijun/Zhang Chi.
In this year's All England Championships, the coaching staff of the Chinese team split the two pairs of "Phoenix" (ranked first in the world) and "Xingbang" (ranked second in the world), which were originally stable, and regrouped them into Jiang Zhenbang/Huang Dongping and Feng Yanzhe/Wei Yaxin. This bold adjustment is partly to cope with the increasingly diverse style of play of opponents, and on the other hand, to better tap the potential of players and stimulate the chemistry of new combinations.
Jiang Zhenbang/Huang Dongping will face Singapore's Xu Yongkai/Jin Yujia in the first round, and Feng Yanzhe/Wei Yaxin will face Thailand's Pak Kapo/Mu Enwang in the first round. Guo Xinwa/Chen Fanghui faced India's Sasis in the first round; Zhu Yijun/Zhang Chi faced France's strong pair Gicquel/Del Rue in the first round.
The All England Open 2025 will be played over six days from 11 to 16 March. The first two days will be played in the first round, and then the 1/8 finals, 1/4 finals, semi-finals and finals will be played every day.
