Chinese Taipei tennis player Cao Jiayi has confirmed that she is taking drugs and has voluntarily accepted a temporary suspension

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed that Chinese Taipei player Cao Chia-yi voluntarily accepted a temporary suspension under the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP) after she was tested for taking the banned drug methylephedrine in January 2025.

Chinese Taipei female player Cao Jiayi

Cao Jiayi, who is only 21 years old, participated in the Paris Olympics last year, and the WTA world women's doubles ranking reached a career high of 115 in mid-August.

Methylephedrine is commonly found in commercially available cold medicines, but ITIA notes that this is a "specific substance" and Cao Jiayi has not been granted a valid therapeutic use exemption; Although the "specific substance" will not lead to a mandatory temporary suspension, she has decided to take a truce from March 1, and this period will also be included if there is a relevant punishment after the investigation.

During the temporary suspension, Cao Jiayi will not be able to participate in any tournaments authorized or approved by ITIA members, including the ATP, WTA, ITF, the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open, as well as national (regional) tennis associations. The Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Division 1 will be played in Pune, India from April 8 to 12, and the Chinese Taipei team was originally on the list before the announcement, so he voluntarily withdrew.
