South Korea's men's table tennis hopeful, 19-year-old Oh Jun-sung, has skyrocketed in the world rankings thanks to his outstanding performance in the World WTT Series. Goh won the men's singles title at the WTT Stars Challenge 2025 in Chennai, India, last week. Among South Korean men's singles players, Oh Jun-sung's mother is ranked second only to the world's 12th-ranked signature player Jang Woo-jin.
As the son of Oh Sang-yun, the head coach of the Korean men's table tennis team, Oh Jun-sung is the youngest (17 years old) in history to win the men's singles championship at the 2023 Korea General Championships.
It is worth mentioning that Wu Juncheng also set off a "table rebellion" at the Asian Table Tennis Championships in October last year, when he defeated the then world No. 1 Chinese player Wang Chuqin 3-1 in the men's singles quarterfinals. Due to Oh Sang-yin's resignation as coach of the Mirae Asset Securities team, Wu Juncheng is leaving the team with his father to find a new nest.
Na Young Kim at the 2025 WTT Chennai
The 19-year-old Korean table tennis player Kim Na-young also jumped 15 places in the world ranking from 46th to 31st with her outstanding performance at the 2025 WTT Star Challenge Chennai. Kim Na-young defeated world No. 36 Du Hoi Kim (Hong Kong) 3-2 in the Women's Singles round of 32 in Chennai, defeated world No. 8 Satsuki of Japan 3-1 in the round of 16, and defeated world No. 15 Adriana Díaz (Puerto Rico) 3-0 in the quarterfinals. In addition, South Korean men's and women's table tennis aces Zhang Yuzhen and Shin Yubin are ranked 12th and 10th in the world respectively.
