The opening and closing ceremonies of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Committee will be a mix of old and new. Los Angeles city officials announced on the 8th local time that the historic Los Angeles Memorial Stadium and the state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium in nearby Inglewood will jointly host the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Wasserman has announced that the opening and closing of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held at the historic Los Angeles Zunian Stadium and SoFi Stadium.


This will be the third time that the stadium has hosted the opening ceremony, the most in the history of the Olympic Games, and the first time that the opening ceremony has been co-hosted by two venues. SoFi will also host the Olympic swimming competition. The closing ceremony on July 30 will be held at Los Angeles Memorial Stadium.

The torch lit by Rafael Johnson, gold medallist in the 10th all-around at Los Angeles 1984, still stands at the entrance to the stadium. "The selected venues for the 2028 Opening and Closing Ceremonies will highlight Los Angeles' rich sporting history and cutting-edge future, showcasing the best of Los Angeles on the world stage," Cassie Wasserman, president and CEO of the LA28 organizing committee, said in a statement. ”

How the ceremony will take place remains to be revealed. The Games will be held from 14 to 30 July, while the closing ceremony will be held on 30 July; The Los Angeles Paralympic Committee will be held from 15 to 27 August, with the Closing Ceremony on 27 August.
