More than a week after the Colorado Rockies picked high school infielder Ethan Holliday with the fourth overall selection, the team has finalized a record-setting deal with him.
According to MLB Pipeline reporter Jim Callis, the Colorado Rockies signed Holliday today for a signing bonus of $9 million, breaking the previous record for high school draft bonuses set by Washington Nationals' first overall pick Eli Willits at $8.2 million. Holliday's brother, Jackson Holliday, previously held the high school record with an $8.19 million signing bonus after being selected first overall by the Baltimore Orioles in 2022.
The signing bonus pool for the fourth overall pick in the 2025 draft is valued at $8,770,900. Holliday's $9 million signing bonus ranks as the fourth highest in draft history, surpassed only by the following three players:
This MLB Pipeline top draft prospect hails from Stillwater High School in Oklahoma and possesses talent that far exceeds expectations for the fourth pick. As the son of Rockies legend Matt Holliday, Pipeline reports indicate he scores above 50 in all five tools on the 20-80 scale, with a power rating of 65 suggesting he could become a top home run threat in the majors.
Holliday will team up with Condon (who posted a .843 OPS in the lower levels of Triple-A this season and is ranked 21st on the Pipeline rookie list) to form a young power core, becoming a cornerstone for the Colorado Rockies for years to come.
