Rivera suffered an Achilles tear during the Yankees' Old-Timers' Day game.

Today, the New York Yankees' bullpen faced another injury, but this time the situation is somewhat different.

According to The Athletic, Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera tore his Achilles tendon during the Old-Timers' Day game at Yankee Stadium on Saturday and will undergo surgery.

As reported by The Athletic, the legendary relief pitcher collapsed suddenly while playing center field in the alumni game for the Yankees. Just prior to this, Rivera—who had never recorded a hit in his Major League career—had just hit a single off Andy Pettitte.

The 55-year-old Rivera spent his entire 19-year career with the Yankees and holds the Major League record with 652 saves. He concluded his final season in 2013 and became the first player to be unanimously elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019.

This is the first Old-Timers' Day game hosted by the Yankees since 2019, an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the team's 2000 World Series championship.
