Boom! Shohei Ohtani hits his 42nd home run, while Kyle Schwarber becomes the National League's home run champion.

Yesterday, Shohei Ohtani hit his 41st home run of the season, climbing to second place on the Major League home run leaderboard. Today, Philadelphia's power hitter Kyle Schwarber hit his 42nd home run during the game, surpassing Ohtani and reclaiming the title of National League home run leader as well as second place in the entire league.

Schwarber's two-run home run not only put him ahead of Ohtani but also gave him the lead in RBIs this season with 97, making him the National League's dual champion. He has narrowed the gap with Major League home run leader Cal Raleigh's 45 home runs to within three.

In this game, the Reds took an early lead thanks to a timely hit by Gavin Lux in the bottom of the first inning with two outs. The Phillies' lineup was stifled by Reds' starting pitcher Andrew Abbott, going "twelve up, twelve down" for the first four innings. In the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, the first batter for the Phillies managed to get hits, with the fifth and seventh innings producing doubles, but both were thwarted by Abbott.

In the top of the eighth inning, with two outs, the Phillies had three consecutive batters hit safely, turning the score around to 2-1. The Reds replaced their starting pitcher but still couldn't stop the Phillies' momentum. With two outs and a runner on third, Schwarber hit a fly ball to right field, which just cleared the foul pole and went into the stands for a two-run homer! The score moved to 4-1. After two outs, the Phillies had four consecutive batters hit safely, scoring four runs, three of which were charged to starting pitcher Abbott. He pitched 7.2 innings, allowing six hits and three runs; despite a quality start, he became a candidate for the loss. The Phillies secured a 4-1 victory over the Reds, marking their fourth consecutive win.

Currently, the top three in the home run leaderboard are all primarily left-handed hitters (Raleigh is a switch hitter, but his left-handed home runs outnumber his right-handed ones).

In fact, Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park has become Schwarber's favorite away venue for hitting home runs, as he has hit 13 home runs here throughout his career.
