He is finally about to leave.
According to a well-known domestic journalist during a live broadcast,Chen Guohao is expected to exit the Beijing Enterprises team, and his new team will be revealed shortly.
This 2023 first overall pick has played two seasons in the CBA so far: in his rookie year, he averaged 21.9 minutes per game, producing 7.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists; in his sophomore season, his playing time decreased to 14.4 minutes per game, scoring 6.6 points and grabbing 2.7 rebounds.
Of course, Chen Guohao will leave through a trade; Beijing Enterprises will not let him go for nothing, and they have already matched his offer previously. According to earlier sources, Guangzhou is the team most actively pursuing Chen Guohao.
Regarding Chen Guohao’s trade, multiple teams might be involved. The initial plan was for Beijing Enterprises to receive Wang Lanqin from Liaoning, Tongxi to get Jiao Boqiao from Guangzhou, Guangzhou to acquire Chen Guohao from Beijing Enterprises, and Liaoning to obtain cash or other assets... However, Guangdong's Xu Xin seems to have entered the picture, making this already complex trade even more unpredictable.
No matter which team he ends up with, as long as he can leave Beijing Enterprises, it will be a positive outcome for Chen Guohao. He just wants to join a team that truly needs him. At 26 years old, he can no longer afford any delays.
If Beijing Enterprises had given Chen Guohao enough attention and development, his achievements would likely not be worse than his fellow first-round 5th pick Zou Yang. Zou has become a local core player for Fujian, averaging 15.6 points, 8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.9 steals last season, earning both an All-Star spot and a place on the domestic second team, and secured a B-level contract renewal this offseason.
As for Chen Guohao’s chances of making the national team? Frankly, it seems unlikely at this point.
Standing just over 2 meters tall, he is not tall enough to play center; as a power forward, lacking consistent shooting does not fit the modern basketball style.
Looking back at China’s national team power forwards like Du Runwang, Zeng Fanbo, and Wang Junjie, the key requirement is the ability to stretch the floor and consistently knock down three-pointers.
In fact, Chen Guohao’s lack of reliable shooting is one reason for his limited playing time on Beijing Enterprises. In his rookie season, he shot only 26.5% from three-point range, making 0.3 threes per game; last season, he improved to 41.7% but only made 0.4 threes per game.
