American high school Veritas officially announced Zhang Boyuan’s joining.Veritas High School will take part in the EYBL, the top high school league in the United States.
Although Zhang Boyuan is eligible to play for Shanxi in the 25-26 CBA season, he opted to develop his skills abroad, a trend widely seen among young Chinese athletes today.
Born on January 22, 2007, Zhang Boyuan is an 18-year-old forward standing 2.03 meters tall, known for his shooting and athletic ability. He has represented China’s youth national teams in the U16 Asian Championship (2023), U17 World Youth Championship & U18 Asian Cup (2024), and U19 World Cup (2025), always serving as the team’s primary core player, excelling in both skill and talent among peers.
Despite never having played in a U.S. domestic league game, he was rated as a four-star high school recruit nationwide. Now joining Veritas High School, it’s likely a step toward entering the NCAA and eventually aiming for the NBA.
It is especially worth mentioning thatthe NBA Draft Room media outlet recently released their 2028 draft prediction list, showing Zhang Boyuan projected as the 30th pick in the first round.
Historically, no Chinese forward has ever been called during the NBA draft; perhaps someone will make history soon.
As for Cui Yongxi, who signed a two-way contract with the Nets last summer, and Zeng Fanbo, who agreed to an E-10 contract with the Nets this summer, they went undrafted in 2024 and 2022 respectively.
Speaking of Cui Yongxi, according to New York Post reporter Lewis, he is currently in Los Angeles preparing for 5-on-5 workouts and might attract interest from some NBA teams.Recently, a well-known domestic media figure mentioned in a livestream that Cui Yongxi’s American agent team has been actively seeking opportunities for him to sign an E-10 contract.
In December last year, while playing for the Long Island Nets, the Nets’ G League affiliate, Cui Yongxi suffered an ACL tear. He is expected to return in September this year, so more news about his attempts to rejoin the NBA will emerge, and his destination for the new season will soon be decided.
With new talents emerging and China’s men’s basketball team winning the runner-up position at this year’s Asia Cup, it seems we are gradually moving beyond the storm that followed the 2019 World Cup.
