Clippers sign a 2.06-meter big man! The 21-player roster is now full as the oldest lineup in history aims for the championship

On August 30th Beijing time, NBA reporter Scotto reported that the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to sign big man Zach Freemantle from Xavier University. Several journalists say Freemantle is likely to receive an Exhibit 10 training camp deal.

Freemantle spent six college seasons at Xavier University (missing the 2023-24 season due to injury) and went undrafted in the June 2024 NBA Draft. In the 2024-25 season, as a "super senior" (a player granted extra eligibility due to NCAA waivers or injuries), he averaged 16.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals in 31 games, earning his second selection to the All-Big East Second Team in his career.

As Scotto mentioned, this spring Freemantle was named to the Portsmouth Invitational All-Tournament Team (a prestigious college basketball event that showcases NCAA graduates to NBA teams). Standing 2.06 meters tall, he can play both forward and center. This summer, he represented the Orlando Magic in the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 6.0 points and 4.3 rebounds in 11.0 minutes per game.

Freemantle is expected to sign an Exhibit 10 training camp contract; if he is waived before the season starts and then spends at least 60 days with the Clippers’ G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers, he will be eligible for a bonus up to $85,300.

Once this signing is official, the Clippers will have reached the offseason limit of 21 players under contract. The roster breakdown is as follows—

14 players on standard contracts (listed by salary): Leonard, Harden, Collins, Zubac, Bogdanović, Jones Jr., Lopez, Batum, Dunn, Beal, Niedbala, Kobe Brown, Paul, Cam Christon

3 players on two-way contracts: Fowles, Jordan Miller, Sanders

4 players on training camp contracts: TyTy Washington, Baldwin, Preston, Freemantle

Previous reports show the Clippers’ current standard roster has an average age of 33.2 years, setting a franchise record for oldest lineup. Will they be able to contend for their first championship in the new season? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
