Yang Hansen was in tears...
In the Trail Blazers’ preseason finale, they lost 129-132 to the Jazz. Yang Hansen came off the bench for 15 minutes, making just one three-pointer, scoring 3 points with 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block, but committed 3 turnovers and fouled out with six fouls.
In the matchup against the Jazz’s main center Kessler, Yang Hansen was thoroughly outplayed. The latter recorded 14 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in less than 25 minutes on the court.
During this summer’s offseason, Kessler failed to secure an early contract extension with the Jazz and was once again placed on the trade block. Lakers reporter Mathur commented on this,The Lakers will continue trying to acquire Kessler through trade in the upcoming season.
Jazz: The price has to go up.
Back to the topic, after the game Yang Hansen addressed the tears he shed on the court, explaining that he indeed shed a few tears but it wasn’t a big deal; mainly due to fouling out and not playing well.
By the way, this wasn’t the first time Yang Hansen cried on the court. The first time was during Game 2 of the first round in this year’s CBA playoffs between Qingdao and Zhejiang, where he scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds and also fouled out. However, in Game 3, he exploded for 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks, leading his team to the next round.
Ultimately, Yang Hansen is just a player who recently turned 20 years old. His tears over a poor performance show he has a strong competitive spirit.
Throughout the entire preseason, Yang Hansen played in all 4 games, averaging 18.5 minutes, 8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1.3 blocks per game, shooting 46.2% from the field and 100% from the free-throw line, with an average of one three-pointer made per game at 40% accuracy. Maintaining an average of 8+4+1+1 in his rookie season would be impressive.
The Trail Blazers’ regular season opener is scheduled for October 23 at home against the Timberwolves. Yang Hansen will likely face four-time Defensive Player of the Year Gobert, who is much tougher than Kessler.
In conclusion, there are high expectations for Yang Hansen, but he also deserves patience and understanding. As an NBA rookie, his first season is bound to be a learning curve filled with challenges and lessons.
