On October 21st Beijing time, during the Trail Blazers’ training for the regular season opener, Yang Hansen disclosed in an interview that he has successfully passed the driving exam and obtained a U.S. driver's license. He mentioned his plan to purchase a BMW X5 and intends to start with a "used" one.
Reports from a month ago indicated that Yang Hansen was studying for his driver's license to address future commuting needs. At that time, a photo shared online showed him at the Portland DMV, clearly in the process of handling license-related procedures.
As a foreign national in the U.S., Yang Hansen had to follow local protocols for obtaining a driver's license, including registration, a written test, and a road test. Now that he has successfully acquired the license, it not only solves his commuting issues but also serves as an ID for tasks like opening bank accounts and hotel check-ins.
Previously, during an appearance on the podcast hosted by media personality "Wo Le Ge Hu Dou," Yang Hansen shared details about his life abroad and his mental journey. In the interview, he revealed that his daily routine is very structured, mostly revolving between the training facility and his residence.
Regarding life skills, he said that his meals are mainly prepared by translator Liu Yucheng, humorously adding that he can cook simple dishes like noodles with scrambled eggs and tofu dipped in soy sauce. Combined with his proficiency in using food delivery apps, he manages well living independently. He also mentioned experiencing a month-long period of dietary adjustment upon first arriving in the U.S., including an incident where a delivery driver broke down mid-route, resulting in a refund and leaving him hungry for two hours.
For Hansen, the competition among the Trail Blazers' big men has intensified. Billups revealed that Lowry has participated in all contact training sessions and, although it's uncertain if he will play in the opener, he is progressing toward that goal. This means Hansen must compete not only with Klingen for playing time but also face the challenge posed by Lowry.
The Trail Blazers will host their first regular-season game on October 23rd against the Timberwolves. How will Yang Hansen perform in his regular-season debut? Let's wait and see.
