More details of Porter's gambling incident: the content of the text message with the accomplice is exposed The verdict will be officially announced in May this year

On January 14, Beijing time, according to The Athletic, another person was arrested and charged in connection with the Jotty Porter gambling scandal, which further revealed what the suspended former NBA player said to his co-conspirators. According to a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York, police arrested Sean Hennan at the Las Vegas airport yesterday. Federal prosecutors allege that Hennan was involved in a conspiracy to defraud an unnamed sportsbook and that Hennan will be charged with wire fraud and money laundering in the Eastern Side.

According to an indictment that has now been released, Hennan got information from another of Porter's co-conspirators at the time when the Raptors player was planning to manipulate his time on the court to help gamblers win. Porter pleaded guilty to a count of wire fraud conspiracy charges in July. In June, four people were indicted and arrested on suspicion of the incident.

According to federal prosecutors, Porter told his co-conspirators that he would be withdrawing early from the Raptors game on Jan. 27 due to an eye injury and claimed he was too ill to continue playing, so he would leave the March 21 game early. Prosecutors said Porter did so to pay off his "huge gambling debts" and to help the conspirators win money by betting that he would not live up to expectations in certain statistical categories.

During a Jan. 23 game with the Raptors, Porter texted a man that he was taken to the locker room to have his eyes checked, that he didn't expect to play again that day, and that he wouldn't start in the second half โ€” he was already one of the Raptors' starters at the time. "But if it's garbage time, I'll shoot a million times," he went on to write.

The next day, prosecutors said in the indictment, screenshots of the information were sent to Hennan. Potter told the two alleged co-conspirators hours before the start of the game on January 27 that he would be withdrawing from the night's game due to injury. Subsequently, this information was also shared with Hennan. The person who sent the message to Hennan pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Hennan received another message from Potter that read: "Bet I won't play good stats. I told (the conspirators) that I would not have blocks and tackles. I would go up to the bench and play for 2-3 minutes and then tell them I had a sore eye again and asked to be substituted. Hennan bet $3,700 according to the prompt and made a profit.

Hennan also received news ahead of the March 21 game that Graham Potter would be out of action again. Prosecutors said Hennan was asked not to divulge the information, but prosecutors believe he did tell others before the game. Hennan ended up betting $2,400 on Porter's score not to reach the corresponding value. Porter played 3 minutes in that game, scoring no points, no assists, and only two rebounds.

Potter is awaiting sentencing. His sentencing hearing was postponed from December to May.

Federal prosecutors asked the judge to detain Hennan until he stood trial. According to a legal document, he was arrested while trying to board a plane at the Las Vegas airport on Sunday, when he bought a one-way ticket to Colombia. He had nearly $10,000 in cash and several cell phones on him and told law enforcement officers that he was going to Colombia to see a dentist.
