Breaking news! A $10 billion ownership change! The Lakers have completed a blockbuster deal.

So much money, so much money.

The NBA officially announced that the board unanimously approved Mark Walter's purchase of the Lakers.

According to previous insider Shams' reports, the deal for Walter to buy the Lakers is valued at about $10 billion, breaking the global professional sports team record. No error, it truly is $10 billion, and in US currency.

Notably, although the Lakers have changed hands, Jeanie Buss will remain in a management role with the team for at least the next five years. Jeanie’s father, Jerry Buss, bought the Lakers in 1979 for $67.5 million. After his passing in 2013, control passed to his children. Now, with this sale, the value has multiplied many times over.

In recent years, the NBA has seen a wave of team sales. Before the Lakers, the Celtics sold for $6.1 billion to an investment group led by Bill Chizek, co-founder of Symphony Technology Group, and the Mavericks sold for $3.5 billion to the Adelson family, among others.

After these three teams changed ownership, significant changes followed: the Mavericks traded away Doncic, the Celtics dismantled their 24-year championship roster, and as for the Lakers... it’s clear LeBron originally intended to finish his career with the purple and gold, but now the situation has shifted.

This season is LeBron’s contract year, with a salary of $52.63 million, but the Lakers currently have no plans to renew his contract. It’s very likely they will part ways next summer. At that point, LeBron will either retire or choose to transfer; by the end of this year, he will be 41 years old, clearly not part of the Lakers’ future plans.

Based on various previous reports, the Lakers not only plan to move on from LeBron but also have no intention to keep Reeves, aiming to free up salary cap space to pursue Giannis or Jokic. However, Reeves’ performance this season (averaging 34.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 10 assists, and 1.8 steals per game) has been outstanding, so next summer he might receive a max offer of a five-year, $240 million contract to stay.

Of course, regardless of how LeBron’s Lakers chapter ends, it doesn’t diminish his greatness. He is the longest river in NBA history, while Jordan remains the highest mountain.

Lakers head coach Reddick shared,LeBron is expected to return in the second or third week of November this yearas his 23rd season officially kicks off.
