ESPN evaluates the three most promising rookies: Rocket scout Shepard tops the list, and Choi Yong-hee's teammates are also on the list

On July 24, Beijing time, the NBA Summer League has ended, and the hot rookies in 2024 have also been unveiled. ESPN's data expert Pelton has selected three of the most promising rookies, with Shepard leading the way. Choi Young-hee's summer league teammate Klingen is second, and in third place is the Wizards' No. 14 pick, Carrington. What ESPN had to say about them is as follows –

Although Shepard couldn't maintain his 22.5 points and 6.0 assists per game in the first two games, he was still the most impressive player in the high lottery show in the summer league. Shepard had nine turnovers in the final game, but overall he was calm on the ball and he contributed a total of 11 steals and five blocks in four games. Shepard's biggest shortcoming was shooting just 5-of-18 from three-point range (28 percent) — just for a man who shoots 52 percent from three-point range in college, that's not a problem at all.

Doubts persist about Klingen's offensive finishing ability, as he shot just 41 percent from two-point range. While Klingen was shooting from three-point range in practice, his 3-of-13 shooting in the summer league (including multiple three-pointers) was mediocre. Klingen's biggest bright spot was on the defensive end, where he looked like a dominant defender, setting an NBA Summer League all-time record with 4.3 blocks per game and leading all players with 12.3 rebounds per game.

Carrington was the most impressive of the Wizards' three first-round picks, averaging 15.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. He'll have to improve his interior finishing ability, but the threat posed by his three-point shooting percentage (35.9 percent), combined with his speed, allows him to get anywhere he wants on the court. Over time, this could allow Carrington to grow into a threat enough to be the lead point guard.

A day earlier, the NBA announced the All-NBA Summer League team, and the three rookies mentioned by Pelton were among them. Shepard was named to the All-Star First Team, while Carrington and Klingen were named to the All-Purpose Second Team. Are you optimistic about these three rookies?
