The King Returns! LeBron James is expected to make his season debut against the Jazz today: beginning his 23rd season and making history as the first ever

On November 19th Beijing time, reporter Shams reported on a program that Lakers star LeBron James is expected to take the court against the Utah Jazz today for a historic season opener. This also signifies that James will begin his 23rd season, making him the first player in NBA history to do so.

“Sources informed me that LeBron James is planning and hoping to make his season debut tonight at home against the Utah Jazz. He will follow his usual pregame routine on game day, including a pregame nap and on-court warmups, with a final decision to be made afterward. So, before starting his record-breaking 23rd NBA season, he still has some steps to complete, but from what I understand, LeBron James is eager to return to the court, and basically, it will be today.”

Even without James, the Lakers have started this season strongly. They currently hold a 10-4 record, ranking fourth in the Western Conference, largely thanks to star guard Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, along with the energy brought by newcomers Ayton, LaRavia, and Smart.

“LeBron is highly motivated and eager to join this Lakers team riding a wave of momentum,” said Shams. “The team won’t take any short-term risks before the game, but when he steps onto the Crypto.com Arena floor today, the goal is to be back on the court and play tonight.”

The Lakers will soon face a “favorable schedule,” with five consecutive opponents holding win percentages below 50%: the Jazz (twice), Clippers, Mavericks, and Pelicans. After that, they will play against the Suns (8-6), Raptors (9-5), and Celtics (7-7) consecutively.

James currently shares the NBA record for 22 seasons played with Hall of Famer Vince Carter. Due to sciatic nerve pain in his right lower back, he has not appeared in any games this season so far.

In a recent training interview, James said he had strained his voice shouting defensive rotations, formations, and matchups loudly. Team reporter Buha commented, “I believe LeBron’s communication will greatly enhance the team’s defense. Without a doubt, having him on the roster makes this team better on both ends of the floor.”

Over his career, James has played 1,562 regular-season games, averaging 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game. Last season, he appeared in 70 games, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists, earning a spot on the All-NBA Second Team.
