DNP! The head coach publicly criticized Lin Wei! He is considered China's top scoring guard.

The University of Oregon's head coach openly criticized Lin Wei for being disobedient and making poor shot selections on offense...

However, the coach also mentioned that after a one-on-one talk with Lin Wei, the latter has performed very well in recent practices, hoping this marks the beginning of mutual alignment.

Lin Wei was a DNP in the last game; so far this season, he has appeared in six games for Oregon, averaging 10.7 minutes, 3.2 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 17.2%, three-point percentage of 13.3%, and free throw percentage of 87.5%.His performance has been disappointing and far below expectations.

Born on December 25, 2003, Lin Wei entered the NBA draft this summer but went undrafted. Later, he was selected eighth overall in the G League International Player Draft by the Texas Legends, a Dallas Mavericks affiliate, but ultimately chose to compete in the NCAA for better exposure and tactical development.

In the 2022-23 season, Lin Wei joined the Tongxi team and officially started his professional career in the CBA. From the start, he was given unlimited offensive freedom, averaging 13.7 shot attempts, 15.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as a rookie, with shooting percentages of 40.3% and 35.7%. In his second year, he averaged 17.1 shot attempts, 20 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 42.7% and 38.1%.

In the 2024-25 season, even with the foreign player policy limiting teams to seven foreign player slots per game, Lin Wei increased his shot attempts to 17.6 per game, averaging 21 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1.4 steals, with shooting percentages of 41.3% and 34.9%, leading Tongxi to their first-ever playoff appearance.During the playoffs, he averaged 23 shot attempts, 30.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 11 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, shooting 43.5% overall and 26.3% from three-point range.

The absolute core status and shooting habits he developed since his debut have indeed made it difficult for Lin Wei to quickly adapt to Oregon's tactical demands, naturally leading to criticism and marginalization within the team. Fortunately, according to the coach, he has not been completely rejected and can regain playing time by making effective adjustments.

Fighting abroad is never easy; in some ways, it means starting over and having to make a firm decision to say goodbye to your past self.
